Worship is no small task

Today I'm linking up with Lisa-JoBaker over at (In)courage http://www.incourage.me/2013/08/a-five-minute-friday-free-write-on-the-word-worship.html For her Five Minute Friday.

I used to think worship was just about singing songs in Church, but over the years I have come to see that worship is so much more than that. So, if it's not all about a song then what is is worship?

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is Spirit, and His worshippers must worship in spirit and truth"  (John 4:23-24)

When the sun is shining and flowers are in bloom, if I look and see God and thank God - that is worship.

When I stop in my day to gaze at the colours of a butterfly and thank God for life's complexity - that is worship.

When His word is open in front of me and I marvel at the way He is speaking to me through it as I seek Him - that is worship.

When I love a friend and pray in my heart as she shares her problems, as I silently ask God to be with her and to give me the right words - that is worship.

When I am in my car and choose to smile and let it go when another driver cuts me up instead of shouting - that is worship.

When I am hurting and choose to forgive and not seek revenge - that is worship.

When God is our priority, the motive of our heart, when our thoughts and deeds align with His will we are in a state of worship.

To worship in Spirit and truth is an all day everyday worship - It is a continual expression of our  relationship with God. It is giving over the whole of our life to Him, serving Him and seeing Him in the everyday ordinary, acknowledging Him in everything.

Worship is no small task!

The challenge is that everyday, through everything, we breathe in and out in worship to God.

I want to be a the kind of worshipper that the Father seeks.

  1. It is no small task, I agree. It takes a conscious effort, with all the distractions around, to keep our hearts focused on God. But this life is a good place to practice, for in heaven, all we will do is worship Him.
