Do you stand amazed?

I see this view every day in one way or another when I walk the dogs.  I get to see the sea and on beautiful days, like today I stop and often snap a picture.

As I stood today I got to thinking about the number of times I've walked on without stopping, not thinking about the view or the beauty that surrounds me. I realised that sometimes I'm like that with God.

God does so many amazing things in my life that sometimes I stop seeing them. There are times when I say to God, "When are you going to do something in my life!" Missing the very thing he is doing every day.

Maybe you ask the same, so let me encourage you to stop and take a look around at how amazing God is.

If you're not hungry because you had breakfast this morning it is because of God's provision. When I got home from my walk today I realised I'd run out of milk and so I jumped in the car, headed to the shop and bought some - just like that. It is beacuse of God's provision that I have the funds to do that, it is because of where he has placed me that I am allowed to drive and have the freedom to do what I want.

When I walk I often listen to sermons from around the world and nearly always have to stop to make a note in my phone. Everyday, through his word, God inspires and speaks to me and yet I've got so used to expecting a word from him I've lost the wonder that he bothers with me at all.

I recently mentored a young woman who wanted to learn how to hear from God because she never does. As we talked over the weeks the realisation came that God was in fact talking to her regularly through nature, through others and through his Word but she had become so used to it that she'd stopped acknowledging that God was speaking to her.

It seems that we are looking for an expereince or a bigger wow from God.
When you read a verse that touches your heart do you miss the impact because you're looking for a burning bush?
When I first became a Christian I was amazed when a verse spoke straight into my life, I was overwhelmed when someone prayed for me and awestruck by the fact God wanted a relationship with me, but it has become normal.

It's good that I expect God to speak to me when I pick up the Bible but that shouldn't mean that I stop being amazed.

The God who created the world takes the time to connect with me each morning as I come before him. That is amazing! (Tweet it!)

This week I want to challenge you to see the view like it's the first time you've seen it. Come to God's word not only expectantly but with a sense of wonder that God wants to spend time with you. Look around, notice what in your life is from God and be amazed.

  1. Have to say, when I returned home to no milk the other day I wasn't thankful I was able to pop off to the shop; I was furious with whoever had finished it and not let me know while I was out so I could bring some home!
Nice points about looking for God so hard that we're actually missing him though!

    1. I may well have been if I hadn't been the one to finish it before I took the dogs out - I'd forgotten by the time I got back in need of a cuppa! Great to welcome a fellow Brit from the South West :)

    1. My dear friend God does indeed think you are important - I pray that as you reflected he spoke his truths over you and that you are seeing his hand in your life.
