Crowding out Joy

Five Minute Friday Sometimes you just need to write - Five minute Friday is exactly that, we write for five minutes no editing, no rewrite we start and then we stop and then we link up over with Lisa-Jo Baker, share, read and encourage. Every week is a different prompt - this week is Crowd

This week I have been studying Joy as part of my Lent studies of the fruit of the Spirit with Scattering the Stones.
I have really struggled with this one. What I have seen and known this week is the 'joy stealer'.

Do you know them - the negative thoughts, the creeping doubt, the feeling of inadequacy, unworthiness, fear and sentences that start "I can't". These thoughts and words crowd into my mind and drown out the joy. The more I seek it the more words crowd around trying to stifle my joy and bury it in darkness.

The enemy does not want us to know joy "for the joy of the Lord is your strength." Nehemiah 8:10

The joy from knowing God has a supernatural power it over comes the darkness trying to crowd us, the joy stealer runs and hides from the light of God's joy in our hearts.

"we take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ" 2 Corinthians 10:5

Take those thoughts captive, use the power of God's word to overpower the crowd.

You can find more essential Friday devotions to get you ready for your weekend where I am also linked up over at Essential Thing Devotions.

  1. Your neighbor on FMF visited my site to let me know about your post. She was right...we're on the same wavelength this week...on so many levels. The negative thoughts, the Word, the Enemy, the Scripture, and using "crowd" as a verb! Lovely to meet you, kindred spirit. :) :)

    1. Lisa how wonderful when God brings two like minds together - great to connect with you.
